I have been thinking about Individual sessions, group sessions and classroom sessions and the best way to manage the student’s behaviors. We all have been
in charge of a group the exhibits less than desirable behaviors. One of the
things that we keep in mind is as the School Guidance Counselor we do not want
to discipline. Discipline is a huge conflict with the role we have in the school.
Point blank it is counterproductive. Trust me it will be hard for a student to
open up to you if you put them in detention the week before.
One of the tools that I currently use for my small groups would
be ClassDojo. One of the things I love about ClassDojo are the features as well
as the ease of use. ClassDojo allows me to promote positive behavior by giving
rewards points, but also allows me to deduct negative reward points for any
unwanted behavior. I try to mostly keep things positive, but I do have few
mandatory rules which if broken will lose you points. Disrespecting or being
mean to other students is one of these negatives.
I love that I can customize the points given or the points
taken away dependent upon the lesson and group need. For example, if I am doing
a group on impulse control, I can use ClassDojo to reward points every time
students control their impulse during the group. I also love that I can print
out monthly reports as well as export everything to Excel, which will help me
review and analyzes the data and look for trends in behaviors that I need to
address with small group or with an individual.
I found this video, on YouTube, which is a tutorial for using CassDojo.
I use ClassDojo. I have found ClassDojo to be a very effective tool in helping small group sessions run smoothly. My plan is to use ClassDojo in my group’s sessions but also use it in my classroom sessions. I will tally the points once a week and let the students spend the points they have collected by purchasing items out of a treasure box.

I also found this video, Introduce your students to class dojo which will help introduce ClassDojo
to your students. Check out ClassDojo and see if it is right for you to use.
